Every year we choose a theme that can be used throughout the year to focus students on an important area of focus. This year’s theme is Game Time.
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12
Game Time places the focus on acting on what God is calling us to do and be now rather than waiting until a time in the future. It is a recognition of God’s call on each one of us regardless of what season of life we are in.
Paul made it clear when writing to Timothy, a young leader in the early church, that it was time to step into a leadership role rather than waiting until he was older. The admonition to “set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity” stands in stark contrast with our culture’s celebration of teenagers living in perpetual adolescence and wasting their time because they are young.
At Oakdale, we provide students many opportunities to engage in meaningful service and leadership. Some of them are reprinted at my blog where I wrote about Happy Church, service opportunities, and other student leadership activities.
